COCO Movement

Open Classes
This type of movement research class, led by Marlyn Attie, director of COCO Contemporary Dance Company, is the company class used to train COCO’s dancers. It is a guided session that uses imagery to awaken the senses while actively developing range of motion and flexibility, inviting dancers to investigate weight, texture, and rhythm as tools for discovery.

The class often incorporates Latin rhythms and Panamanian music, anchoring the exploration in a local soundscape that fuels energy and play. Instead of fixed choreography, it functions as a research space—a laboratory where dancers expand their physical capacity, experiment with sensation, and move between delicacy and strength.

Each cue builds awareness of the skin, breath, and space, deepening the connection between physical experience, rhythm, and creative expression.
